About the Conference

The broad notion of cultural heritage constitutes a foundational cornerstone within both international and European Union legal systems as a vital global common. This conference will examine how contemporary legal frameworks, law enforcement practices, and judicial developments — at both European and global levels — can be harnessed to combat property crime, to prevent illicit trafficking, and to counter the destruction of shared heritage. By focusing on the role of national and supranational courts, the overall administration of justice, and judicial cooperation, the event aims at facilitating a critical and interdisciplinary dialogue on how legal harmonization can more effectively safeguard tangible and intangible assets as part of the common heritage of mankind.

We invite contributions that explore the following themes from the perspective of tangible, intangible, and global commons, including, but not limited to:

  • Cultural Heritage, Armed Conflicts, and Global Security
  • Crimes Against Cultural Heritage and Regimes of Liability: Individuals, Corporations, and States
  • The Administration of Justice, Courts, and Judicial Cooperation
  • Criminal Justice, Intelligence, and Law Enforcement Security
  • Digital Frontiers, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybercrime
  • Global Emergencies, Risk Management, and Infrastructure Security
  • Cultural Heritage and Human Rights

Submission Guidelines

We welcome proposals from national and international experts in the topic covered, both from the academic world and specialized institutions and organizations, as well as early career researchers and PhD candidates.

Abstracts (maximum 350 words) should be submitted by 11 October 2026 and must include:

  • Title of the paper
  • Author’s name, affiliation, and email
  • Up to five keywords

When submitting your abstract, please also include in your email:

  • A short bio (maximum 100 words)
  • An indication of whether you would like to present your paper in person or online

  • Notification of acceptance: 26 October 2026
  • Programme publication: early December 2026
  • Certificates of presentation will be provided to speakers

Event Practicalities

Cost: Free

To promote inclusivity and facilitate participation by scholars and experts who may face travel or funding limitations, the conference will be held in a hybrid format.

Publication Opportunities

Authors of accepted papers could publish their work in the Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Brașov, Series VII: Social Sciences and Law, a peer-reviewed academic journal.
