3rd. Ed. Conference “The EU as a Global Security Provider: Countering Transnational Crime and New Cooperation Architectures”
Salerno, May 22, 2026 – The University of Salerno hosts the prestigious Conference entitled “The EU as a Global Security Provider: Countering Transnational Crime and New Cooperation Architectures”.
The event is an integral part of the activities of the Jean Monnet Module EU-GLOBACT (Transnational Crime and EU Law), a project of excellence co-funded by the European Commission (2023-2026), and the International and European Criminal Law Observatory (IECLO), both based at the Department of Legal Sciences (DSG).
The meeting promotes a high-level debate on the European Union as a global security provider in the fight against transnational crime.
The opening session will feature institutional greetings from Prof. Virgilio D’Antonio, Rector of the University of Salerno; Prof. Francesco Fasolino, Director of the Department of Legal Sciences (DSG); and Prof. Giuseppe D’Angelo, President of the Didactic Council of the DSG-
The Introductory Session will include contributions by Prof. Angela Di Stasi, Full Professor of International Law at the University of Salerno and Key Teacher of the Jean Monnet Module EU-GLOBACT, Prof. Andrea Castaldo, Full Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Salerno and Key Teacher of the Jean Monnet EU-GLOBACT, Prof. Michele Nino, Full Professor of International Law at the University of Salerno and Key Teacher of the Jean Monnet Module EU-GLOBACT, and Prof. Anna Iermano, Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Salerno.
The symposium is organized into two round tables:
- Session I – The Internal Resilience – Instruments and Challenges within the Union: chaired by Prof. Anna Oriolo, Associate Professor of International Law, and Leader of the Jean Monnet Module EU-GLOBACT. Speakers include Virginie Mercier, Full Professor of Private Law and Criminal Sciences (Aix-Marseille University), Georgios Nouskalis, Assistant Professor of Criminal Law (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Laurent Saenko Full Professor of Private Law and Criminal Sciences (Aix-Marseille University), and Francesco Foccillo, Ph.D. Student in Legal Sciences (University of Salerno).
- Session II – The External Dimension – The European Union in the Global Scenario: chaired by Franco Roberti, Former Member of the European Parliament and National Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism Prosecutor. This session features contributions from Prof. Paolo Bargiacchi, Full Professor of International Law (Enna “Kore” University), Col. Luigi Bramati, Director of The NATO Stability Policing Centre of Excellence and Colonel of the Carabinieri, Prof. Carmine Renzulli, Adjunct Professor of International Intellectual Property Law (University of Salerno), and Elena Kariofyllidou, Trainee at the International and European Criminal Law Observatory.
The conclusion of the Conference will see the presentation of the EU-GLOBACT Executive Summary of Reccomendation and Guidelines by Emanuele Sorgente, IECLO Senior Member (University of Salerno).
